True Repentance
I was reading the novel Moby Dick by Herman Melville recently. Melville raises a very interesting point regarding repentance based on the Bible story of Jonah.
In the novel, Melville says: "And here is true and faithful repentance, not clamourous for pardon, but grateful for punishment."
This was the repentance that Jonah of the Bible had. He did not repent to escape God's punishment, for he knew that punishment was what he deserved. Instead he said: "I will sacrifice to You, with the voice of thanksgiving.". Jonah 2:9.
Even in the belly of the whale, Jonah's first thought was to glorify his God,not to save his own skin. God was pleased with this true repentance, for immediately after the prayer, the whale vomitted Jonah out onto dry land. (Jonah 2:10)
We have all sinned, and continue to sin, due to our human nature. The important thing to remember is that the Lord is working on you, perfecting you to praise Him in heaven for all eternity. But when we do fall, let there be true repentance. Do not be afraid of God's correction, though it is painful. He loves you too much to punish you beyond what you can bear. Instead, truly "look to the Lord's Holy Temple" and he shall deliver you.
Cheerio!

I don't know about sharing. I kinda stumbled over this particular little thing, and I guess it was sort of a "heaven-sent" brainwave.
I may have to get more of those before i can share
